The West Sacramento Fire Department has the mission of protecting life, environment, and property within the City of West Sacramento. To effectively complete this mission, the Department has located five fire stations throughout the City. The five fire stations operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a combined staffing of 17 personnel on duty which includes a Battalion Chief to respond to all structure fires and other major emergencies providing Incident Command and Scene Management. Firefighters work 48-hour tours of duty. There are three work groups called "shifts." In addition to the City of West Sacramento, the Fire Department is responsible for the unincorporated area south of the city boundary to Babel Slough Road and across to the old Arcade Station on Jefferson Blvd. The Fire Department has Automatic Aid agreements with several Yolo County Fire Departments, and with the City of Sacramento Fire Department. The Fire Department has three divisions, which provide a wide range of services for the community. These divisions are: Fire Administration, Emergency Operations, and Fire Prevention/Hazardous Materials.

Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms save lives. Properly installed and maintained smoke alarms play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. Fire spreads fast, so working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly.
  • Roughly three out of five fire deaths happen in homes with either no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
  • More than one-third (38 percent) of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms are present.
  • The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms.
Check out this video for information about smoke alarms.

Structure Fire on C Street

At approximately 10:00 pm on October 6, the West Sacramento Fire responded to a structure fire on the 400 block of C Street.  Crews arrived on scene and found a 2-story residence with fire showing from the second floor.  Crews initiated fire attack and had a difficult time accessing the fire. The entry to the second floor was a stairwell at the rear of the property.  Crews worked together in getting to the seat of the fire and extinguishing it.  There was significant damage to a second-floor bedroom, with smoke and water damage throughout the home.  PG&E arrived on scene and turned off the electrical and gas to the unit.  There were six residents displaced, and Red Cross was en route to provide assistance.  Sacramento Fire Department and Davis Fire Department provided city coverage during this incident.
